Services

"The place where healing begins" is much more than a slogan at Hitchcock Center for Women. It's the way we go about our business, the business of helping women help themselves for a better life. The women and children that come through our doors need help. Help combating the ill effects of chemical dependency, help facing a new day, help raising children, help with life. We help them do this by providing wholistic treatment for women addicted to drugs and alcohol. Women...

  • Who may also face histories of physical and sexual abuse, and psychological disorders
  • Who may come from unstable familial relationships
  • Who may be a teacher, nurse, doctor, etc.
  • Who may be young or older

We treat women through what we call the "The Hitchcock Way," a continuum of services that help treat the whole woman.

Assessment The assessment department provides walk-in, on-site assessment services to men and women involved with the Department of Children and Family services as well as overflow assessment services to the alcohol and other drug treatment network of Cuyahoga County in order to reduce the assessment waiting list within the county system.

Outpatient Services Residential Treatment Hitchcock Center for Women is the only residential treatment provider in Cuyahoga County that specifically focuses on women. We are also the only residential treatment program that allows women to bring multiple children (up to age 12) to treatment with them. Hitchcock's wholistic treatment model is gender specific and based on evidence from seven years of national research. We combine the following treatment models into one wholistic treatment model that includes:

  • Stages of Change…what brings us
  • Relational Model…what keeps us - the core of women's wellness is the wellness of their relationships.
  • Atrium Model…what changes us - provides trauma integrated treatment to women.

Transitional Housing Program:
In the Transitional Housing Program, Hitchcock works with clients to enhance life skills and assist women in becoming self-sufficient in order to retain permanent housing and live chemical free lives. Our program can house up to 26 women and 20 children. As a part of this program, Hitchcock encourages clients to obtain reliable employment income as a means to prepare for housing and savings. The women are able to look for employment after completing the required life skills classes that are offered to them as part of this program.

Permanent Affordable Housing:
This program serves women needing low cost sober housing. The program is designed as short term housing for women who are in a transitional state such as awaiting placement in a subsidized housing program housing like CMHA, Section 8, or Eden, are seeking safe residence after treatment in a supportive environment, women needing housing following incarceration, separation from family as a result of job loss, addiction, domestic violence, or any other situation in which a woman finds herself displaced. The housing is supplied on a week to week lease and is considered a part of any treatment or housing offered at the agency. The program provides a room, laundry services and is available for as long as needed. There is an opportunity to purchase a low cost food coupon which provides 3 meals per day, 7 days per week. The program has 6 available rooms and is protected by all landlord tenant laws.

Vocational Training:
Hitchcock Center for Women has partnered with LNE and Associates (http://www.lneassociates.com/) to provide job skills training to prepare Hitchcock women to return to the working world.

Phase I of the job readiness program begins with a vocational assessment to assist clients in learning about their existing skills. Next, clients learn essential interviewing skills. After successful completion of Phase I, women are then transferred to Phase II in which they start the job search phase. The women continue to work with LNE and Associates until employment is obtained or until they have returned to school for education purposes. Currently, HUD requires that 19% of Hitchcock residents are employable or in school, but we have exceeded this minimum guideline with each passing year. As of 2009, Hitchcock has had 45% of our discharged clients obtained employment either through the services of LNE and Associates or their own self-determination.
